Android WiFi QR code scanner

Start with the QR tools already available on the Android device

The receiving job is to read an existing WiFi QR, confirm the intended network, and connect. Creating another code is only relevant if the existing QR is stale or unusable.

Start with the phone's supported QR-reading path. Camera from Google documents QR scanning only on selected devices, so use manufacturer guidance when the controls differ.

Create a replacement only if the QR is staleUse RepointQR only after confirming that the existing QR needs replacement.

No reprint needed.

Camera support can vary

Google states that Camera from Google QR scanning is available only on selected devices.

Android’s share QR is a separate feature

Google’s WiFi Settings can display a QR for sharing, but receiving an existing code is a different task.

RepointQR is not the scanner

Use the phone’s supported QR-reading tools first and regenerate only when the old code itself is the problem.

01

Scan with Android built-in tools

Start with the QR-reading tools already provided by the device. Google documents Camera from Google QR scanning on selected devices: users can choose QR mode or, where supported, point the default photo mode at the QR and act on the banner that appears. Because that feature is not universal across all Android hardware, keep the instructions conditional rather than promising one identical camera flow.

02

Camera versus WiFi settings

Camera and WiFi Settings solve different sides of the workflow. The camera or another built-in QR reader handles an existing code presented to the phone. Android WiFi Settings, by contrast, can generate a Share QR for a network the device already knows. If the goal is joining from someone else’s QR, begin with the receiving tool rather than opening the Share screen.

03

Confirm the target network

After the QR is recognized, verify the network name or connection action before proceeding. A QR can be perfectly readable while representing an old or unintended network. If the environment has several similar SSIDs, this check matters even more. Do not interpret successful decoding as proof that the network credentials are still current.

04

Troubleshoot vendor/version differences

If the expected camera or QR control is missing, use the manufacturer’s current support guidance for that device and Android version. Some phones expose QR features through different camera interfaces or system utilities. If the QR is recognized but WiFi still fails, move away from the camera and check the network credentials, availability, or any additional access step.

Workflow

Scan and join in four checkpoints

Keep recognition and network connection separate.

1
Step

Open a supported built-in QR path

Use the camera or QR control provided by the device. Camera from Google supports QR scanning only on selected devices.

2
Step

Point the camera at the WiFi QR

Keep the code in focus and wait for the device to recognize the action.

3
Step

Confirm the target network

Check that the resulting WiFi action refers to the network you intended to join.

4
Step

Troubleshoot the correct layer

If the QR reads but the network fails, investigate credentials or access rather than rescanning indefinitely.

For Android users receiving an existing WiFi QR

The user already has the code and needs a reliable scan-to-join path.

Visitors scanning an existing WiFi sign

The code already exists; the job is recognition, network confirmation, and connection.

Users whose camera controls differ

Use the device maker's current QR instructions instead of assuming every Android camera matches Google's interface.

Android WiFi QR scanner FAQ

Questions about scanning an existing WiFi QR on Android.

Can Android scan QR codes with the camera?

On supported devices, yes. Google documents QR scanning in Camera from Google, but notes that the feature is available only on selected devices.

Should I use WiFi Settings to scan someone else’s QR?

WiFi Settings is documented for sharing a network Android already knows. For receiving an existing QR, use the built-in QR-reading path supported by the device.

Does RepointQR scan the WiFi QR for me?

No. RepointQR is the creation tool, not the Android scanner.

Why does the QR scan but WiFi still fail?

The password can be stale, the network can be unavailable, or another access step can still be required.

What if my Android camera does not show the same QR controls?

Check the device manufacturer’s current instructions because camera and system QR features can vary by hardware and version.

Keep a working Android WiFi QR

Use the existing code if it scans and the network details are current. Create a replacement only when the QR or credentials are actually outdated.
